2017 Grantees

In 2017, Social Justice Fund for Ventura County (SJFVC) has awarded $25,000 to five local organizations that inspire and educate young leaders who work to improve fairness and justice in their schools and communities.  SJFVC is proud to be able to continue giving grants to grassroots groups organizing their communities to achieve tangible social and educational change.

One Step a la Vez (OSAV) & Rainbow Umbrella (RU) $2,500 to each
Conduct 4 training sessions for LGBTQ cultural competency and professional development workshop with the Fillmore Unified  School District and eventually expand this effort to other school districts.

Future Leaders of America (FLA)  $4,500
Have identified an issue in the Oxnard school system : Align A-G curriculum with graduation requirements to encourage Latino/low income population to go to college; 3; track progress in graduation rates

Planned Parenthood (PP)  $4,000
Help support the implementation of a LGBTQ youth sex education program/training to help potential LGBTQ youth to build confidence in their sexual identity, create safe places and encourage the health for vulnerable youth;

Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project (MICOP)  $4,500
Conduct workshops for the indigenous Mexican community in Ventura County to fill in the gap of knowledge for families and students in better understanding how to get into college and how to enroll once accepted.
